Calls mount for expanded Medicare-funded dental care in Australia


Australians' oral health should be prioritised at the next federal election, according to health experts, who are calling on the Federal Government to significantly expand Medicare-funded dental care. About a third of the Australian population is eligible for public dental services, but it's estimated there is only capacity to provide oral healthcare for about 20 per cent of those who are eligible.

Grattan Institute releases proposal for universal dental care scheme


Less than a week after the Australian Greens unveiled a proposed Medicare-funded dental care program, the Grattan Institute has released its proposal for a universal dental care scheme. The scheme, which would be graduated in its approach due to the costs involved, would initially target all children (and their parents) who are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) and all Health Care Card and Pensioner Care Card holders, amounting to about 9.7 million people in total.
